Engine pull

There's yer problem...
Y'aint got no engine.
Video of drop:
Yank:
transmission seperated. Nosecone leakage will be fixed. The leakage on the bellhousing is engine oil. I can not yet determine if it is from the front main seal. Either way, NO problem!
Clutch off the flywheel. Some burning on flywheel but the clutch and pressure plate are relatively new. My suspicion is that whoever installed the clutch did not turn or, at least scuff, the flywheel. Flywheel will be turned and new clutch/pressure plate installed.
VW of Canada rebuild:
The following picture is the sticker over the engine case code. You can see the code stamped behind the sticker. The sticker states the engine is "GE" (1978-79 2 liter hydraulic lifter). The stamped engine code is a "GD" which is a 1976-77 2 liter SOLID lifter engine. Looking carefully at the bottom left corner of the sticker, you can see the "D" behind it. The "G" is visible to the left of the sticker.
So, this just means that the engine case they used for the rebuild was a GD engine from a 1976-77. It means the engine is not original to the bus.
The fan shroud, however, likely is- as it has a GE code. Many people look at the fan shroud to ID their engine. You are now seeing why that does not always work!
Anyway, if this sticker is correct, we are golden. I will know if it has hydraulic lifters once I remove the valve covers.
The following is a picture of the engine's intake, where the carburetors WERE bolted to and where the fuel injection will be bolted. The heads are very clean and appear to be relatively new or rebuilt. In front of the #1 head cooling fins is stuck a large mass of what appears to be a piece of a/the old engine-to-body foam seal. This was causing the #1 cylinder to cool poorly. This is why its compression is low. It explains why it is lower than cylinder #3, which is (99% of the time), the hottest cylinder.
Overall: A clean engine (many I pull are grease monsters) that should be a good canidate for the task at hand. After resealing and fully cleaning every part, you will think it's factory fresh. :-)
